Do Blue Light Glasses Really Work? My Experience with Blokz
How much of an impact does blue light have on my day-to-day?
Between work and academia, I’m glued to screens more often than I’d like to admit, and all that time plugged in has resulted in some intense eye fatigue and low quality sleep. While looking for a solution, I came across Blokz by Zenni. The claim is that these lenses would protect my eyes from artificial light and UV rays all day, helping to reduce strain and promote better sleep.
To be honest, I wasn’t really sure about these. How could a pair of lenses completely change how my eyes interact with light all day? Glass is glass, right?
I was getting pretty desperate for a solution (and some proper sleep), so I decided to give Blokz a shot. Let’s talk about it!
They’re definitely affordable—but do they actually work?
When I was first looking through Zenni’s website, I was fairly skeptical. They made a huge deal out of protecting your eyes from blue light – comparing it to sunscreen for your skin! Also, with lenses starting at less than $17 I just didn’t see it being legit. How could something that important be priced so low?
For that price tag, I figured I’d take the risk and try a pair. Spoiler alert: I am so glad I did! Blokz have completely changed the game for me.
Not only are the frames comfortable, but being protected from the harsh light of screens all day has had a remarkable impact on my sleep schedule, the brightness of my eyes, and my mood throughout the day. Turns out that when you get some good sleep for once, life is much more manageable!
Lenses that are backed by science
After using them for a while, I had to find out more. I am an academic after all! So I checked out the info on their website to learn more about why these work so well.
Blue light is produced by all of our digital screens, and in today’s world, those are everywhere around us. Blue light (or HEV light) produces a higher wavelength than others on the spectrum, and our eyes can’t actually filter it as well as others. This is what leads to eye strain and sleep interruptions.
Blokz lenses feature a special blue light-blocking polymer that filters out blue light, protecting my eyes all day and night, and an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare.
And if you’re a major screen time junkie (guilty), the Blokz Plus filters out 23x more blue light than standard, non-filtering lenses. The Blokz Plus Anti-Fatigue also features subtle magnification, which reduces eye strain significantly. These are the lenses I chose in an aviator frame.
Effective AND super stylish
I liked my new lenses and frames so much, I went back and ordered five more pairs. Along with my aviators, I now have some classic tortoiseshell cat-eye Blokz, a modern geometric pair for when I want to really turn heads, these rimless glasses with gold accents that seem to match with everything, and two others I wasn’t totally sure about but ended up loving. My eyes have never felt this protected or looked this good. 💅🏻
Blokz lenses can be fit into a huge variety of frames—I counted over 1000 options on the Zenni website. And just about every frame had several color options.
If you’re wondering whether a pair of glasses designed to reduce eye strain and promote better sleeping habits might look a little nerdy for everyday wear, let me put your mind at ease. These glasses are anything but.
Blokz are an unexpected life-changer!
I never thought I would get so excited about a pair of glasses but here we are. Now that I’ve had a chance to work with the Blokz Plus Anti-Fatigue lenses late into the night, these lenses have become essential for me both day and night.
So for all my people out there who live in the digital world, whether it’s for work, play, or everything in between—I can’t recommend Blokz enough. Save your eyes, take back your sleep schedule, and live your best digital life.
